Veritas Instant Access

Create instant VM access with Veritas Instant Access!

You can create an instant VM access from the NetBackup backup image. The VM is available almost instantaneously and achieves a near-zero recovery time target. NetBackup connects a snapshot of the VM directly to the backup storage device to allow your ESXI host or cluster to process the snapshot as a normal VM.

The snapshot VM image can be used for a variety of purposes. For example:

  • Recover files from VM or copy a VMDK file.
  • Run tests on the VM as testing a patch.
  • Troubleshooting or disaster recovery.
  • Verify an application.

NOTE: This instant access feature is only supported for NetBackup devices. This feature requires that the NetBackup backup image be stored on a Media Server Deduplication Pool (MSDP) storage device.

To create instant access,

1. On the left side, click VMware.

2. Locate the VM and click on it.

3. Click the Recovery points tab, then click the date that the backup occurred.

The available images are displayed in rows with a backup time stamp for each image.

1. In the image you want to recover, click Recover> Create instant access virtual machine.

2. Review the recovery settings and make changes if necessary.

Recovery Options:

Allow overwriting of existing virtual machine: If there is a VM with the same display name in the destination, it must be deleted before the recovery process starts. Otherwise, the recovery process will fail.

Power after initial preparation: Automatically runs on the VM when recovery is complete.

NetBackup creates an image of the VM backup image and creates an instant access port. The snapshot of the image appears on the instant access virtual machines tab. You can now use the VM as another VM on the ESXi server.

1. For details on the restored VM, click the VM under the Instant access virtual machines tab and click View details.

2. When you are done with the VM, you can click Delete to remove the attached VM snapshot. The VM has been removed from the ESXi server.
